Bed Sharing Is Not Safe When...
- Any adult in the bed has used drugs, including prescription, or alchohol
- Any adult in the bed is excessively tired
- Any adult in the bed is obese
- It occurs on a soft/pillowtop mattress, a sofa, couch, chair, or a waterbed
- There are excessive blankets and pillows and/or these items are not securely away from the babies face
- There are loose items in the bed such as toys, stuffed animals, or clothing
- There are cords on or near the bed
- There is space between the mattress and the wall where the child could become lodge in
- There is nothing to protect your child from falling off the bed
- Your child is left alone
- Mom smoked during pregnancy (Another great reason to quit!)
- Another child is allowed in the bed with no adult between them and the infant
